How long does it take a hardcover book to decompose above ground?

Im doing a paper, and one of the questions are about a hardcover book placed on top of red bricks, its for my history cl, and they want a time period that the book could have been from...(its set up as like an archaeological exploration and they found the book) i just wanted to know about how old could the book possibly be?
